Summer Series 2017 – Round 2 MVPs

There were lots of good performances on the day, with players doing lots of the little things well that make the team as a whole function. Stats don’t always tell the whole story and effort like that shown by Lois McConville to come all the way over from the backside against Teeside and chase the receiver down to prevent the score was an amazing effort.

In her first game Donna Dawson racked up a high number of tackles showing great speed to the ball.

Both Vi Kate Maggs and Mandy yet again did exactly what they needed to do. The snap was nearly always on target allowing the play to function. Both did a great job of then running the unseen routes underneath that are there as the outlets. It was great as well to see Vi get the reward for the hard work as well, scoring her first ever touch down!

Onto the MVPs for Defence, Offence and Overall…

Defense

On Defence,Elleanor O’Connell had a good game patrolling the secondary, coming away with 9 tackles and a pick in the last game. However, Zoe John yet again put in a MVP performance with a huge 14 tackles on the day. Not only that but the speed she came down to make the tackles underneath meant that offensive gains were limited every time. Alongside that, something not shown on the stat sheet is the hustle as well to get back and chase after the ball carrier.

Offence

On Offence, Ruth Lewis had another great day at the office, cementing her reputation as a home run hitter by pulling in 4TDs from 9 receptions at a rate of almost 1 every other catch…and it could have been more. However the MVP, with 32 passing targets to go with 12 runs, is Emma Underwood who totalled 45% of the offence on the day often being the go to in order to make the first down and keep the drive alive as well as finding space and staying alive on several plays. This production was rewarded with a TD and 2 extra points.

Overall

Overall MVP goes to Kira Walker. A lot of pressure was put on Kira in this round and she was asked to run the offence herself for the second half of each game. She responded to the challenge amazingly completing almost 60% of her passes on the day for 7TDs. Not only that, but she was able to do this while implementing a new play calling system for the first time. As if that wasn’t enough, she also took reps on Defence as well!
